Welcome to this month's voidsprite progress report.
I initially didn't want to make a progress report for March, as it was mostly usability improvements. However, while working on a pretty major feature I found a crash in the Windows version which needed to be hotfixed, hence this new release in the middle of April.
Here are some of the highlights:
1. Frameless window mode
If you're familiar with VS Code or even potentially the browser you're using right now, you might know that it has a custom window frame, meaning UI elements can go there. I've added this as an option to voidsprite, which will feel more natural, and I think it looks pretty good.
2. Improved single-instance mode
Single-instance mode used to be very limited, it relied on the restrictive window message system in Windows meaning it couldn't take any arbitrary data such as file paths. With this update, single-instance mode was improved: files open through file associations and Lospec palette downloads will be passed to the main instance + it now works on both Windows and Linux.
3. Pattern stacking
Multiple patterns can now be stacked together by shift+clicking them. This can be done either additively (any pass must be true) or subtractively (all passes must be true) with a toggle on the pattern menu.
4. New templates menu
The templates menu was changed from a dropdown to a list with names and descriptions. The editor now also lets you change the metadata of a .voidsn file that is shown when it is used as a template.
Some other changes:
- Pixel grid render filter
- Layers can now be tagged with colors
- "Blend towards color" filter
- Marking export formats as favourite
- Image export operations no longer block UI
- "Iteration count" parameter for JPEG Glitch filter
- Initial palette dropdown for indexed sessions
